Quite right; it probably comes from the unofficial FAQ style that
(d)evolved out of Usenet newsgroups. It's not terribly useful, is it?
Furthermore, the handbook has a *strict* rule about not using
something has harmless as contractions (supposedly to facilitate
understanding by nonnative English speakers) yet in the FAQ it's a
free-for-all.
My favorite way to use the FAQ: full-text search.
(That's definitely an indication that something's wrong.)
