I don't understand, how general discussion in mailing list
can affect cutting the final release.

Just read POSIX spec. P1003.2, "make" command f.e.
It says nothing about error condition there.
Moreover NetBSD (and FreeBSD now) makes only blames on it,
other world makes don't.
