Talking about 25Mb vi.recover files, I vi'd one of them the other day
on an unloaded machine with 32Mb of memory and 100Mb of swap running
961014-SNAP. It went directly south and didn't come back. The console
complained 4 times about running out of swap and then reported that
it had zapped a "sh" process. The machine replied to pings, the
console keyboard LEDs were still functional and the screen saver came
on and off after the timeout & pressing a key. Apart from that,
dead as that parrot.
I didn't get to play much 'cos I was using the machine at the time
and needed it back up....
So, the moral of the story ? Don't edit that file :-{[]}

Hmm, maybe it's time to take a look at freebsd-chat.
