it wasn't under warranty, i didn't ask for warranty coverage, i
didn't want them to give me the part.  i wanted to buy the part from
them to save myself some time and bother, to get an important system
that i make my living with back online.

i have a commercial quality lightning protector on the line at
the head end, bolted to a 3/4" waterpipe.  all the equipment is
on a UPS.  sometimes, when lightning strikes, things die, no matter
how much protection you use.
