A Lightwave terminal server with 16 ports and a POTS line is adequate for all of our equipment at any co-lo. So I just never consider that others would prioritize differently. If all else failed, I think I'd rather build a new system disk and send it to the co-lo than try this type of modification without a console. Running a system with no console access is an invitation to disaster whether it's a server, router, switch, or anything else. FWIW, the Lightwave runs Linux from flash (no disk drive) and has OpenSSH for in-band connections as well as an internal modem. A very nice box.
