I'm not sure this matches with how people tend to obtain FreeBSD. Either from the website or from the FTP server, at some point there is a list of version, for example: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/ISO-IMAGES/ Name Type Size Time 10.1 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 10.2 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 10.3 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 10.4 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 11.0 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 11.1 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 11.2 Directory 06/27/2018 00:00:00 12.0 Directory 12/11/2018 19:07:00 9.3 Directory 11/12/2017 00:00:00 What kind of logic would imply that someone decides to download, let's say, version 11.0, but after starting the installation surprisingly wants or expects version 11.2? Sure, given Internet connection is available, such an option (!) would not be bad, if someone accidentally downloaded 11.0, but actually intended to install 11.2, to continue with the example presented above. Such options could also include to install patched versions (e. g., -RELEASE-pX) or more recent snapshots (e. g., -STABLE) which wouldn't even be on the -RELEASE list. But is this likely to happen? Those who update their system usually use freebsd-update or build from source, depending on very different needs and requirements, and even if it's the first thing they do after the installation of a -RELEASE version. My very individual summary: People download the version they want, not the version they don't want. ;-) -- Polytropon Magdeburg, Germany Happy FreeBSD user since 4.0 Andra moi ennepe, Mousa, ...
