I'm sorry if that is the impression it leaves. We are building our effort on the fact that Java's number one RFE is to get a JDK port out for FreeBSD. I think that if we went to Sun saying: "Please open your stuff for the world", they would be a lot harder to persuade than now that we can say: "We are solving your number 1 RFE, in fact, look, we've got most of it running already. All we'd like you to give us the legal goahead and we'll do the work." Once FreeBSD moved from the list of "other operating systems", Sun will see that it's not at all that painful. In fact, it may even get them some favourable press. Based on the FreeBSD port, other BSD's can build their own port quite quickly, and repeat the cycle that FreeBSD has done: get a working (well, limping) JDK, talk to Sun, get backing. The other BSD's should be able to have a much shorter cycle.
