Fair enough, but not being able to boot beyond probing
the parallel port on a current generation machine is a
critical problem and I don't see how you can consider
reporting the problem anything but useful.

I can add additional information at any time. It's a
good bet I didn't read the FAQ about kernel traps;
but hey, I was a little intimidated by the title,
"For Serious FreeBSD Hackers Only," and figured it
wasn't for me. I therefore never saw the preliminary
steps, which I will now take.

Beyond that, what makes you so certain in the context
of the original problem report that I didn't check the
mailing lists? There are two simple possibilities,
1) the solution is there already, and 2) you monitor
the lists and haven't seen anything about this appear.

So, you either know there's a solution or you know
there's NOT a solution. Therefore, either enter the
solution in the bug report and close it, or keep it
open and wait for me to provide better information.

Regardless of what you, et al, intend the gnats data
base to accomplish, it remains a fact that it is a
useful tool for others to search for problems and
solutions. Ignoring that fact is counter-productive.

Paul
