Colloquially, it does. According to Webster's, it doesn't. However, I've just found a definition in WordNet that agrees with you, which is good enough for me. My original point was that if your objection to the original was the connotations of "2-ness", then this change may be ineffective. "Few" might be a better choice, as it has never meant anything other than "some, but not too many" and doesn't have associations with breeding pairs.
