FreeBSD 4.1-RELEASE i386 GENERIC
Dell OptiPlex GX1
SoundBlaster 16 ISA PnP
>Description:
There are two problems with the AdvanSys SCSI ISA HBA
probe:
1. It cannot be disabled. Disabling the device
driver in kernel configuration before booting
does not prevent the probe from executing.
2. It thinks that the SoundBlaster 16 is a misconfigured
AdvanSys HBA. (Result: the probe fails).
NOTE: This machine does not have an AdvanSys HBA.
NOTE: On the same machine, 3.3-R GENERIC doesn't have
either of these problems. I don't know in what release
the problems first appeared.
>How-To-Repeat:
Boot the machine using the 4.1-R kernel and mfsroot
floppies. Go into full-screen kernel configuration.
Disable all non-present devices, including AdvanSys.
Save settings. Exit kernel configuration and
proceed with boot. Observe console output. The
following will be seen:
adv1: Invalid baseport of 0x220 specified. Nearest valid baseport
is 0x320. Failing probe.
unknown0: <Audio> at port 0x220-0x22f, [ ... ]
[ ... ]
This is the first pair of adv1/unknown0 messages.
There are a couple more, which I didn't write
down. All of the remaining adv1/unknown0 message pairs
concern devices on the SoundBlaster 16.
>Fix:
Unknown.
NOTE: I don't have 4.1-R, just the boot floppies.
