The 'man ppp' page has example of ppp interactive mode. Also read this
article at
http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/bsd/2000/06/14/FreeBSD_Basics.html?page=1
Between these two documents you should be able to do what you want.
If you have a winmodem type modem {IE no onboard controller) then it
will not work with FBSD unless you also install the winmodem driver port
from
http://www.geocities.com/wtnbkysh/ there are several versions and I don't
know
which one to tell you to use. Find some install instructions from somebody
that
 installed the winmodem drivers at
http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/r/e/reh18/A21p/A21p.html#Modem
These winmodem divers are new on the scene and very leading edge.

Subject: manual dial and ppp question

Hello,

I have question about configuring FreeBSD for dial-out.

< FreeBSD 4.4 release, modem CL 33.6 ISA, ISP provides dynamic IP, PAP auth.
,primary and
  secondary DNS >

The part of the modem that is dialing out is damaged. I have to dial my ISP
manually.
When hear "negotiate signal" what to do ? How to work this out ?

Is it all I have to do to edit /etc/ppp/ppp.conf and enter username and
password ?

Thank you,

ssl@uns.ns.ac.yu
