The ATA driver in -STABLE does not support DAO writing (there is code
to do it in -CURRENT, but has not been merged).

There is an experimental patch somewhere (search mail archives) to do
scsi emulation for atapi, but I don't know if it can provide
capabilities not present in the ata driver, nor do I know how stable
or functional the patch is.
