<hermeneuo>

... everything else they (= The FreeBSD Project [wonderful IMHO :-)] people)
have done for the FreeBSD project [the project "proper": i.e. the work on the
OS, its documentation,...].

</hermeneuo>

If my interpretation is correct, the sentence might be changed e.g. to:

 <para>Introduces FreeBSD to a new user. It describes the history of the
       FreeBSD Project, in particular the goals and the development model,
       as well as everything else the FreeBSD Project
       {people,community,team,developers,...} has/have[1] done for the
       project.</para>

Another example:

s/The FreeBSD Project people[2]/the people[2] gravitating towards the Project/

e.g. "as well as everything else done by the [large] [international] [virtual]
community gravitating towards the FreeBSD Project[3].

[1] plural or singular according to the previous choice.
{people,community,team,...).

[2] {people, community, team,...}

[3] "End weight" on the community gravitating towards the FreeBSD Project :-)

I am not a native speaker. My examples might sound artificial or make no
sense whatsoever.
