No. The only difference in cables is from hub to hub. Otherwise, the network doesn't care which machine is the server and which are the clients. You need to make sure that the cables match on both ends. The configuration I use for 10Base-T CAT 5 cabling is: (Cable to the right, clip of RJ-45 plug down) Top White Blue Blue White Orange White Brown Brown Orange White Green Green Bottom Note: It is the pairs of wires, and not the colors that matter. Pairs are: 1-2 3-6 4-5 7-8. Do you have access to a cable test kit? That would help.
