I did do this. It still detects as a PS/2 Mouse.

Partially related, but one thing that the HP EliteBook does is that they
consolidate the pointing stick and the trackpad as one device.

This seems to also happens with the EliteBook 840 G2
(https://wiki.freebsd.org/Laptops/HP_EliteBook_840_G2), with the 840 being
tested by someone else. The trackpad on my 9470m works with Windows and Lin=
ux,
so looking at how Linux manages the EliteBook's trackpad is probably a good
idea.
