OK....Let me start over...What dd does is copy the disk as is (so 2 speak)...ota

Now when you made a dd copy to the hard drive, it is in freebsd format...

Place  a dos format floppy in the drive a:

Now when you dd copy the file from the hard drive to the floppy it will
over write the format of dos and make it a freebsd format,,,automatic,,,,,

so now the dos disk is a freebsd disk....

so you do not need to format the disk for freebsd at all...

You this a little clearer....just forget the format step all together...

and where did you get the -l from.....
